A Personalized Feet Regimen

One day you stare at your feet and notice that they are not nice to see. And then you are determined to improve them.

Feet are the most overused part of the body. They take us to any place at any time. Yet some people always overlooked them. So let's give them the proper treatment that they rightfully deserve.

But first you will have to prepare what you need:
calamansi/lemon
basin
warm water
soap
brush/toothbrush (ones that you don’t use)
Small towel
Dry towel
lotion/foot lotion

We now move on to the next steps:

Second step: THE CALAMANSI/LEMON SCRUB
Using a calamansi/lemon, scrub your feet gently. Pay attention to the darker areas and leave it for about 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Third step: CLEANING TIME
Put warm water in the basin and soak your feet in it. Clean your feet using warm water, soap, small towel and a brush/toothbrush. Brush your toe nails meticulously. Rinse with clean warm water.

Fourth step: PAMPERING TIME
Pat your feet with a clean dry towel and put some lotion to it.

You can apply petroleum jelly on your feet and put socks on it before you go to sleep. I do this 2-3 times a week.

Just this morning, I found myself a new hobby: answering quizzes online. And I was currently into it.

I originally planned to open my e-mail only when an idea popped out of nowhere. Check your facebook account. Open it now.. Then you know what happened next.

I guess answering quizzes are quite popular today? But a piece of advice, don't take it too seriously!

Perhaps you want to take a quiz too?

Swine flu ALERT!

All over the world, there is now an increasing awareness to a new type of virus.

Though the Philippines still remains as one of the countries which are considered as swine flu-free, the Department of Health still warns the public to be careful regarding the swine-flu virus.

The virus was said to be a product of a gene mutation from three streaks of viruses. It was said to originate from Mexico where large numbers of deaths have been reported and thousands infected.

Furthermore, it was stressed that frequent HANDWASHING and PREVENTION are still the best precautions against this type of virus.

I have a FEVER. Now, what?

Fever is a natural mechanism of the body when there is something wrong is going on inside the body.

How do I know if I have a fever?

• Oral temperature is above 37.5OC
• Axillary temperature is above 37 OC
• Rectal temperature is above 38.1OC
• Tympanic temperature is above 37.9 OC

(Note: There is a slight difference in the temperature of the babies, children and the elderly.)

What to do if I have a fever?
Everybody (especially moms) knows what to do when somebody has a fever. But for the benefit of those who do not, here are the things which you can do:

1. Provide TSB or tepid sponge bath.
First is that you need to get two towels: one dry and the other one is wet. Whenever we had a fever during our childhood days, my mother would use water with ice. But I learned that it was a no-no! Note that you cannot use ice water. The water from the faucet is preferable but the temperature of the water should be 80-98OF. When you use ice, the area (towel is usually placed in the forehead) where you put the towel vasoconstricts. You wash the face and body using the wet towel particularly those who are generating more heat (armpits for example) followed by the dry towel. Perform TSB every 15 minutes.

2. Take a sip of hot soup.

3. Increase fluid intake.
Basically, we increase our fluid intake in order to prevent dehydration. Did you know that there is water expelled when we exhale? Our body tries to compensate in order to maintain homeostasis so respiration is increased. Thus, the water in the body also diminishes.

4. Get bed rest.

5. Provide or remove blanket to provide comfort.
Give a blanket when the person feels cold and remove the blanket if he feels to hot. This is done in order to enhance the comfort of the person.

6. Take medication.
Paracetamol is usually taken every after 4 hours especially when temperature is 38.5C and above.

If the temperature still rises or persists for a week and though you have done your part but still show no improvement at all, then I suggest that you bring him to the hospital NOW.

Artistico Replica

While I was busy organizing my files, I came across our pictures during our artistico replica days.

From the words itself, Artistico Replica is a play where you have to act out scenes then afterward make a picture/painting out of it.

The theme of the contest was all about Filipino artists. As a block, we decided choose Carlo J. Caparas. We presented Bakekang, Tasya Fantasya, Joaquin Bordado, Panday and Kamandag with a modern creative touch. I portrayed a man who is gambling, a fan of Christoff (did I spelled the name right?), a back-up dancer of Bakekang, and even mimic the look of famous Carlo J. Caparas.

Here's a part of our play:

Do you know how to save money?

One of my first year insights:

Do you know how to save money?

Lately this October, I have been reading books about personal finance. I've searched books and the net because I am finding ways on how to save more on my allowance and how to minimize unnecessary expenses. I have come up with ideas based on what I've researched:

* "Pay yourself first." That's right. I am going to save first. Maybe I am going to allot 40% of my daily allowance for savings. According to Colayco's book entitled Wealth Within Your Reach, one of the reasons why Filipinos do not save much is because of the common formula of "SALARY - EXPENSES = SAVINGS". Rather, it should be "SALARY - SAVINGS = EXPENSES". I think it is not that bad. I would like to take that as a challenge.

*"Determine your WANTS and NEEDS." Remember what your Economics teacher told you? We always spend our money on our wants rather than on our needs (the usual basic necessities such as food, water, shelter, etc.).

*"Do not be an IMPULSIVE BUYER." This is related to the second idea about wants and needs. When I see something new and good to see in the mall I am usually tempted to buy it but I pause for a moment and think whether is it worth my money? If I am still having second thoughts I do not buy that thing. And oh, if you don't really need that discounted dress you saw on your favorite shop, DON'T BUY IT. Discounts are only useful when you buy something that you really need. Basically, we are blinded with the wrong notion that we will save more if we buy this discounted pair of socks and jackets.

Go Organic!

With the increasing mortality rate all over the world, people of today are becoming more health-conscious and have resorted to living healthy.

One way of adapting a healthy living/lifestyle is to subtract the things which could shorten the life years and then add factors that promote and enhance life.

Why not try going organic? They are safer, tend to have more nutritional value and taste better. Plus, they have lower levels of pesticide.

A healthier YOU!

With the right mindset, you can make a huge difference in your life. From Making my first priority: Health, we now move on to the questions,
“How can I become a healthy person?”
"How can I achieve to be healthy?

Here are some steps which you could take:

STEP ONE: Adapt a healthy living with a positive outlook.

‘Organic’ and ‘No preservatives’, are just some of the words and phrases associated with health. Organic foods are in and are continue to be in-demand. But even though we are eating organic, it is still important to live life in moderation and in caution. You can still go to eat your favorite ice cream, pizza and others. It’s okay that you treat yourself from time to time. It’s even better if you’ll regard your favorite high-calorie foods as an indulgence or as a reward for something.

STEP TWO: Exercise.
This is one of the goals I am currently working with. You must allot at least 30 minutes of exercise. Did you know that even businessmen allot 30 minutes of exercise? So don’t make an excuse that you don’t have the time to make for exercise. Take note that you must have warm-ups first.

STEP THREE: Make step 1&2 a habit.

Do I need to elaborate more?

Everyone wishes and wants good health. But in reality, only a few are striving to have one. And I do think you are too, right?

Making my first priority: Health

‘Health’ has a broad definition. Search for it in the internet or perhaps a dictionary and you’ll find a lot of meanings. But when we speak up of health, I am referring to the physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual aspect as a whole.

What makes up a healthy person?

A person who is healthy is someone who is fit in all aspect. He/She is always happy (because he/she can find ways to be one) and can adapt to the only thing which is constant: change.

First and foremost, we have to make the necessary preparations. Ask yourself first, “Am I ready for it?” or “Am I that motivated and driven enough to stick to my plan in the end whatever happens?”

If your answer is a yes, then we can further move on to the question like, “What do I want to obtain or to gain in this venture?” It may be, “I want to change myself for the better”. Setting a goal in mind helps a lot, (actually it is a must!) because it lets you to focus on one thing. If your answer is a no, don’t be sad. You only have to convince yourself first that you are ready. That you are motivated and driven enough to change.

You’re all set to be a healthy person!
